On this day BENGAL MOTION PICTURE ASSOCIATION (BMPA) the erstwhile name of EASTERN INDIA MOTION PICTURE ASSOCIATION (EIMPA) was established. In this context, a meeting was held. Sri Anadinath Basu presided over the meeting. It was attended by a host of film personalities including Deboki Kumar Basu, Madhu Seal, Hemmad Sahib, Pramathesh Barua, B. N. Sircar, Satu Sen, F. Dossani, Sukumar Dasgupta, Sudhir Sanyal, Sailajananda Mukhopadhyay, Premendra Mitra, Chandrasekhar and many others.

This organization started its service thereafter for the development and welfare of the film industry in Bengal having its four wings namely Producers, Distributors, Exhibitors and Laboratory & Studio owners together under a single umbrella of this Association. This Association became a unique type of Association having all fields of the film trade activities tied under the control of a single Association.

According to the records, this Association was having its jurisdiction stretched within the vast part of the colonial British and French ruled Indian territory before & after independence. It was having its jurisdiction comprising of the State of West Bengal, Bihar, Orissa, Assam and all states and principalities, situated within the said states and also includes and comprises Chandernagore, Berhampore in Madras, Nepal, Bhutan, Sikkim, East Bengal, Manipur, Tripura & Burma.
